As a wedding photographer, I get tons of really great questions from brides & fellow photographers. In this Q&A series called ‘Hey Rahel!’ I’m attempting to answer anything & everything and share helpful information from my experience! Feel free to send your questions through the contact form

———

Q: Hey Rahel! We love that you’re always on top of everything and after our engagement photos we’re BEYOND excited to have you capture our wedding too!! And because I’m totally Type A when it comes to planning, I was curious, how will you prepare for my wedding day? Thanks! C.K.

A: Hey there Gorgeous!! You know what, for me it’s always been super important that I can be on top of all things and spoil my couples rotten – hence my limited number of weddings I take on each year. So thanks, it means a lot that you noticed!

To make sure I’m on top of all things wedding details, I will send out the Wedding Questionnaire 5-6 weeks prior your wedding day to collect all your details. In this questionnaire we’ll talk about obvious things like emergency phone numbers, exact addresses of all locations and group shots you would like to have. In addition we also talk more in detail about your honeymoon and when you return (so I know when to send out your wedding box!!!), how many bridal party members you have, as well as vendor information for your florist, planner, etc. – just in case your wedding is being featured on the blog!

After you’ve answered the questionnaire, I start to prep your planner. Yes, I make a planner for each and every couple, containing information I need for a wedding day, including addresses, phone numbers, group shot lists, timeline and other juicy details! As you can see, I’m a little Type A myself when it comes to wedding prep! My goal is to give you a fabulous day, and I strongly believe that having good ‘bones’ is the key element to a relaxed day!

Most usually I’ll be back with a few more follow-up questions, before I finalize the planner. If I see any ‘problem zones’ in your timeline – for example, not enough time during Cocktail Hour – I will give you suggestions how we can avoid such issues.

Finally, the day before your wedding, I’ll prep! I’ll clean all of my gear, get memory cards & batteries checked and ready to go, lay out our outfits and print the planner. Oh, and fill in Adrian about anything and everything, so he’s perfectly in the loop as well!

XO, Rahel ♥

As Adrian & I prepare for our life changing move to New England, I’m writing a Countdown Journal to keep you all in the loop and to share our adventures in this crazy journey! You can find our full New England story here

.

It’s absolutely crazy, but time is FLYING and we’re only 3 1/2 months away from leaving California and moving to New England! It all feels a little surreal. To think that so soon we’re going to be packed up and ready to drive all the way across the country!

The House / It’s the question everyone is asking us! “Did you guys find a house?” Well, yes we did! Back in early June we looked at about 15 homes and one just kinda was IT. The closing process has been a test of faith in many situations and until we actually hold the keys in our hands (in mid August, hopefully!!) I’m being rather cautious, just in case things don’t turn out as we hope they will. BUT, if all goes well, we will have a beautiful, charming (aka old – built in 1790) house in the Historic District of Amherst NH!!! Talk about a dream come true

Process & Closing / As I mentioned, the closing process for the house has been interesting, to say the least. I’m sure it’s pretty much normal procedure, but when you watch too much HGTV and House Hunters, you start to believe that buying a house is a breeze. A short process that includes signing a couple of papers, a quick phone chat with your bank and VOILA. Well, it ain’t so easy after all. It involves plenty of backs and forths, negotiations, home inspections, tons of signatures, hours spent on the phone with various people – and fixing up a broken heart every now and again. It’s a painful, testing process!

We’re basically waiting for the last piece of the puzzle to come together – the home assessment – and as soon as we have the official okay from the bank – we are ready to book another trip out to New Hampshire to seal the deal in mid August! It’s oh so very exciting :D

Dreams of Reno Projects / Being a girl, I do girly things. Like dreaming about home renovations, decorating and putting my very own stamp on just about each and every square foot of the house. Including the outside! The front doors (all 5 of them…) and the large yard that will be turned into a vegetable & flower garden. LOTS of dreaming, planning, deciding and elaborating! If all works out, we already know our first major project. Refinishing the ancient hardwood floors. Lots of sanding and whitewashing may be in our near future…

Designs & Plans / The last few days I’ve been sick. Design Fever! (So nope, not reaaally sick) The itch has started to plan out color schemes, design aspects and figuring out how the house will flow overall. What adjectives I would put into each room. Like, what we do in each space. How it should feel. I’m a very visual person and therefore I’ve been going through stacks of copy paper. Drawing out layouts, ideas & plans. I’ve created an army of secret Pinterest boards – one for each space (and there’s A LOT of spaces in this house!!) and pinning like a mad woman. It’s something I’ve loved to do since I was about 11 years old. Planning, drawing, dreaming…

If all goes through with this house, let me tell you! The #HouseOfMenig (yup, already got a cool hashtag!) will be very Scandinavian inspired. Very practical. Simple. Beautiful. Very whitewashed. Detail oriented. Calm & serene in it’s color schemes. Just a fabulous place to relax, enjoy and cozy up!

XO, Rahel

Erin & Alex got married at beautiful Nestldown in Los Gatos CA. They are both mountain kids at heart and their day couldn’t have been any more magical in this woodsy wonderland. Alex fell head over heels in love with Erin, when she said to him “I will follow you wherever you lead” – as their relationship grew over many emails from one US state into another. Enjoy ♥

Their day was filled with laughter and so much love. Erin wanted to really showcase the natural beauty of Nestldown and complemented the greenery with pretty white bouquets, flower crowns for the bridesmaids and the most flattering flowy wedding dress by KKKKK. Alex was dressed in a handsome midnight blue suit with black lapels. Understated sophistication – and I love that!

240 years ago, an amazing country was founded. Three years ago, an amazing doggie was born.

Yes, our (not so) little Fourth of July girl is turning three today! She was one of nine and we most definitely lucked out with getting her! She’s sweet, fluffy and always ready to be part of just about anything. Swimming, snow adventures, riding in the car for hours, cuddles, BBQ’s or playing with kids – she does it all with the happiest of attitudes!

So today, as we celebrate a double birthday – USA & Leya – we hope that you have a fabulous day BBQing, cheering on the parade or cooling off in the pool

Palo Alto Wedding Photographer Rahel Menig Photography

Meet Erin & Alex. Two super sweet people that enjoy dancing in the sunset, are not shy to break out a big smile and are simply made for each other! They met while Erin worked as an intern at Alex’s medical practice. They started to write emails and their friendship slowly grew into a deep appreciation & love for each other. They got engaged in beautiful France while attending a wedding. To not steal the thunder from the couple, they had to keep their big news under seals and wraps! (Just imagine how hard that would be!)

We met at the beautiful Foothills Park just outside of Palo Alto for their engagement photography. There’s so much to see here, from lush forests to the typical golden grass meadows… In my book, this park will never grow boring ♥
